Crystalin Medeiros is a partner in the firm’s first party property division, who manages a team of associates in the representation of insurance carriers in both commercial and residential first party property losses. Ms. Medeiros has a wide range of experience in litigating insurance matters including: residential and commercial losses, hurricane related storm damage to both residential and commercial properties; water damage to both residential and commercial properties; and she also has experience in the area of workers’ compensation. Ms. Medeiros also oversees the firm’s appellate practice division along side Mr. Teebagy, handling all aspects of appellate practice.
Prior to coming to Powers McNalis Teebagy Luongo, Ms. Medeiros worked in South Florida defending insurers throughout the state in workers’ compensation matters. She also served as an intern Law Clerk at the Florida Supreme Court under then Justice Cantero and had been one of eight individuals selected in the State of Florida to participate in the Florida Distinguished Students Program at the high court. While at the Court, Ms. Medeiros worked on a vast array of appellate matters, including reviewing and making recommendations on petitions for discretionary review as well as assisting with opinion drafting. Ms. Medeiros also worked for the The Knowledge is Power program through St. Thomas University, providing legal aid services to indigent individuals in Miami-Dade County, where she oversaw all pro bono volunteers. Prior to undertaking her legal studies, Ms. Medeiros consulted on accessible housing and design requirements under the Fair Housing Act while working at Adaptive Environments in Boston, Massachusetts.
While studying at St. Thomas University School of Law in 2008 she was an active member of both Law Review and Moot Court. Ms Medeiros also received the top ranking grades in several of her studies, including Legal Research and Writing, Advanced Legal Research and Writing, Appellate Advocacy, Civil Procedure I, Criminal Law, and United States Supreme Court Advocacy. Ms. Medeiros also received the Best Mentor award in Law Review, Best Oralist award in the St. Thomas Moot Court Intramural Competition, and actively participated in Moot Court competitions both as a coach and oralist in the State of Florida and Washington D.C.
